ImagePolitical developments, instances of street demonstrations and disputes between various parties, relating to the recent appointment of the new Perak state government, to the extent of displaying rudeness to the HRH Paduka Seri Sultan Perak, Sultan Azlan Shah, have saddened and disappointed me. The fact that HRH Paduka Seri Sultan Perak is my uncle (Sultan Azlan Shah’s father is my grandmother’s brother) adds to such sentiment.

ImageExtention from my previous elaboration 2nd stimulus economy package. I believed at this moment is more vital and critical to consider carefully on each element of the stimulus effect. If one or more items not able to generate any positive short-medium term, the country economy will be in jeopardy. On January 30, 2009, BNM announced we have reserved about  RM316.8bil (USD91.3 Billion) The figure has short fall significantly. It is believed sufficient to finance 7.5 months of retained imports and is 3.3 times the short-term external debt.

ImageSomeone said recently ‘don’t blame the Government for everything’. But our country is so “Government-centric”. Everything is determined by the Government. Lets not look at it as complaining but where else would the ordinary citizen go to get direction, aid or redress, if not the Government? Notice that everytime I spell ‘Government’ I use uppercase ‘G’. When I was a junior banker, my immediate Boss was an ex-Government man who had spent a long time in ‘The Service’ (more uppercase). He impressed upon me ‘Always respect Government because Government is so important. Always spell ‘Government’ with a capital letter G.’

ImageI have been coming to citizenthinktank.com regularly to check if anyone would like to voice their opinions on the recent Perak issues. However, so far it has been very quiet here, so i thought why not i start and allow readers to weigh in on this. Please do not share your party ideology or bashing here. Let's just take a step back and look at what is going on and how could we make things better. Firstly, I have absolutely no idea what are the causes for the reps to defect. I have heard many versions but unless it is published,i assume there were merely speculations and rumors. Two of them are alleged of corruption charges. My thoughts are why are we or PR voting or putting questionable candidates in the last election? Doesn't somebody with the right mind thought about investigating the corruption issues first to see if they are eligible to be a candidate? Where is ACA? Or these are merely plain speculation by everybody?

2nd Economy Stimulus Package Ideas PDF Print E-mail

ImageIt is merely an idea and may subject to change according to near future economy climate. The point is the faster the implementation the better we can cushion the global economy crisis, soon will hit us in a bad shape. Though they look like wishlist, better than have none at all. Bottom line, the 2nd economy stimulus package will need more other parties to be involved as compared to before. It cannot be target just on single sector that claimed badly hit. It has to be comprehensive. The GDP growth of each country contributed by goverment spending, private sector spending as well consumer spending. However, looking at the climate we merely lose confidence on goverment and consumer spending too.

Leaders should host their open houses in their homes PDF Print E-mail

ImagePlease allow me to wish all the Chinese Political and Social Leaders a warm “Gong Xi Fa Cai”. Even if we are all facing bad times now, I hope the year of Golden Ox would bring us happiness and good fortune. I notice, lately the political parties and certain organizations host festival receptions in the name of ‘Open house”. Literally, it is wrong to call it Open house as the reception is held at halls, hotels, fields etc. The true open house should be held in the houses of the respective leaders and also in the houses of the ordinary layman.

The Quran Does Not Restrict Charity To Muslims Only PDF Print E-mail

ImageA few of us Bloggers (Marina Mahathir, Anas Zubedy, Syed Jamal and I) have organized a ‘Let’s Read The Quran campaign from January 15th till February 14th 2009 through our Blogs. If I may summarise, charity is meant for all human beings, without reservation. The non Muslims may think that I am stating the obvious. Yes I am. But unfortunately I have seen some Muslims (not all though) limit their charity to Muslims only. This prejudice is because of a misunderstanding of what our obligations really are.

First here are three irrelevant things that happened in the country to usher in the Chinese Year of the Ox. These are news items (truncated - please click Read More ).

Malaysian Interest Rate Regime: Consistent and Fair Rates PDF Print E-mail

Published in : Social Ideas Bank, New Economy Ideas

ImageOn Wed 21 Jan 09, Bank Negara reduced the OPR by 75 basis points  which bring down the OPR to 2.5%. This rather sharp  reduction was in response to interest rate cuts in other countries and to the worsening economy in Malaysia. While the move by BNM may be to preempt a worsening situation we should really consider our own local factors and consider whether such a large cut was necessary.

We do not have asset bubble as in USA and in UK. We did not raise interest rates when the inflation rate was galloping and other countries were all raising their rates. Our interest rates over the years after the Asian crises have consistently been low compared to other Asean countries except Singapore. We still have  high food prices notwithstanding the lower CPI. How is Malaysia affected by the recession  brought on by the US and now spreading through the world?

ImageI was the generation of Wawasan 2020. I AM still the generation of Wawasan 2020. What? What is Wawasan 2020? It's definitely seen long forgotten or at least i have never seen any politicians or future speak about this anymore.

It was introduced by Dr. Mahathir in 6th Malaysian plan in 1991.  Is the fact that it was introduced by Dr.M that politicians nowadays have to stay away? I do not play politics. But this is my DREAM! My dream for the country, my dream for my children.
